The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo, and the King Sejong Institute Foundation President Kang Hyun-hwa appointed actor Lee Minho as a brand ambassador. "We appointed Lee Minho, who is well-known at home and abroad, as brand ambassador in line with the growing popularity of the Korean Wave," a ministry official said. "We hope that more people will get to know King Sejong Institute through actor Lee Minho."
Actor Lee Minho will be appointed as a brand ambassador for "King Sejong Institute Foundation" the flagship brand of Korean language, culture and education abroad, for full-fledged official activities.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo, and the King Sejong Institute Foundation (President Kang Hyun-hwa, KSIF below) appointed actor Lee Minho as a brand ambassador for KSIF in an effort to raise awareness at home and abroad.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it will hold a ceremony on July 9 to appoint a brand ambassador for KSIF to award a letter of appointment to actor Lee Minho. Actor Lee Minho will appear in KSIF’s Korean language, culture and promotion content to promote Korea and the King Sejong Institute around the world.
Celebrating the 13th anniversary of his debut this year, actor Lee Minho has appeared in a total of 18 works, including "Boys Over Flowers," "The Heirs" and "The Legend of the Blue Sea." Recently Kim Eun-sook's "The King: The King of Eternal Life" was selected to Lee Minho’s next drama, making the talk of the town. Lee Minho, who showed high performance in every film, has a strong fan base not only in Korea but also abroad. In addition, the donation platform "PROMIZ" has continued sharing activities by donation subjects of environment, children and animals, since 2014. In 2018, he also sponsored Lee Minho photo books for Korean learners at King Sejong Institutes around the world. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism believes that Lee Minho, an actor who has devoted himself to social contribution for such a long time, is qualified as a brand ambassador for KSIF, which promotes Korean language and culture.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has designated King Sejong Institutes overseas since 2007 to promote Korean language and culture around the world. As the demand for hallyu has expanded significantly, the government has established KSIF, a public organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2012 to oversee the operation of the King Sejong Institute. As a result, the King Sejong Institutes expanded from 13 in the three countries in 2007 to 180 in 60 countries as of June 2019. Currently, about 60,000 foreigners encounter Korean language and culture at King Sejong Institutes every year. Along with KSIF, The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to raise the brand awareness of King Sejong Institutes and provide quality education services to actively respond to overseas demand for Korean and Korean culture.
"We appointed Lee Minho, who is well-known at home and abroad, as brand ambassador in line with the growing popularity of the Korean Wave," a ministry official said. "We hope that more people will get to know King Sejong Institute through actor Lee Minho."
"The reason Lee Minho has selected the first showing as with the Foundation after his military discharge, is because of his special affection for his contribution to society," said an official at MYM Entertainment, the agency of actor Lee Minho.
